Why Church Camp Is Important!

I truly believe that every child should spend time at church camp during the summer - but them again - I'm a camp director. I am also a parent. As a parent I want my children to experience as many positive experiences as possible during their growing-up years. These experiences include, but are not limited to: Sunday School, 4-H, music drama, sports, travel, youth group activities, reading, school clubs, art, marching band and much more. What I appreciate most about church camp is it allows young people to encounter Christ, live in a community of like-minded peers, sing new songs, play games, tackle challenges, see new places, and experience adventures like rock climbing, backpacking and whitewater rafting. These activities teach life lessons and make for life-long memories and friendships in a Christ-centered, faith based community.

There are many opportunitiesfor our children and grandchildren to take part in during the summer – but none as holistic, and life-changing as church camp. As a result of a church camp experience we have witnessed many students return to camp in leadership roles, attend Brethren colleges, enter Brethren Volunteer Service, go into ministry as a vocation, and choose to work in service areas such as education & social work. This is exciting! This is why the Camp Blue Diamond staff is committed to outdoor ministry! Lives are changed, and leaders born. The teachings of Christ proclaimed. – Jerri Heiser Wenger

Summer 2018 Theme:
Beyond Belief: The Universe of God
We are very excited to encourage you to use the 2018 InsideOut resource Beyond Belief.  The Universe of God.
Beyond Belief!
The Universe of God is an exciting resource that is ideal for the outdoor ministry setting as it asks big questions encouraging campers to discover how God’s endless love launches amazing adventures and allowing them to know that God always has new mysteries to explore.
Daily themes and scriptures are:

  • What If We Belong to God?  Psalm 139
  • What If God is bigger?  Luke 1:35-55
  • What If Hope is Real?  Mark 2:1-5
  • What If There Is More than Enough?  John 6:1-14
  • What If We Speak Up?  Mark 7:24-30
  • What If We Change the World?  Matthew 5:13-16
  • What If We Go Beyond?  Luke 10:1-9

Exploring these questions through scripture, campers will learn that they are already known and loved, and that God is bigger than they can imagine. They will also realize that hope is a necessary force, and to accomplish these hopes God will provide them with the tools they need to live life to the fullest. As campers reflect on their own lives they will be encouraged to use their gifts as God’s voice in the world.

Matthew 5:16 teaches us that as children of God we are 'to let our light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify our God in heaven'.  Through these words of Christ, campers are encouraged to embrace the truth that God wants to use each of us to make the
world a better place.  The precious promise campers will take home is that they do not go alone, for there is nowhere they can go that God doesn’t go with them, and through this truth they are challenged to proclaim God’s vision for the future and invite others to participate.
