Outdoor School
Camp Blue Diamond is a beautiful setting for learning about the environment, and what needs to be done to protect it for future generations. During the 2024-2025 School Year, Shaver's Creek Outdoor School and Camp hope to host twelve weeks of Fall and Spring Outdoor School.
Fifth grade classrooms from Huntingdon County, Mifflin County, and various other Pennsylvania schools will be part of the Shaver's Creek Program. Students from State College Friends School will do their own Environmental Education programming while Camp provides the facility & foodservice.
Each week at Outdoor School two or three classrooms and their teachers come to learn about Pennsylvania wildlife, how early settlers lived, and what can be done to protect the environment.
During Outdoor School, Camp provides the foodservice, facilities and maintenance. Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center provides the programming and gets the volunteer counselors from PSU.
At Outdoor School kids discover the intricacies of the natural world. They discover just how rugged and dangerous the wild places can be, but also how fragile they are too. They learn how their lifestyles and decisions can protect and preserve the environment.
While at Outdoor School, students will have meals in the Main Lodge and sleep in the Summer Camp Cabins. The Summer Camp Cabins are fully winterized and have electricity and heat.

Rates listed on the Lodge or Cabin webpages are not applicable to Outdoor School or Environmental Education groups, which are discounted.
